Heal Thy Self = Healthy Self… once we start breaking down the English language and see how our ancestors spoke, it all starts to make sense… Our ancestors never ate meat and/or diary (unless on special occasions), so why should we? Because of them, we are here, so if they survived history as a ‘vegan’, who are we to think or say that being a vegan is too dangerous, extreme, or ‘too much’?
Veganism is not a diet, but more of a lifestyle; a lifestyle that saves animals lives, the environment -planet-, & most importantly, (y)our life. A vegan lifestyle does not lead to death but instead it leads to more Life, for everyone. Once we start eating from nature, we can call ourselves natural, but if we are eating artificial foods, we can’t say that we are natural human beings. You can’t expect to live a healthy life if you are eating death; your body is a temple not a graveyard for animals, it sounds bad, disgusting, sad and all the negative things, but the truth always hurts. But this can be changed, just because we live in a society where eating meat, harming animals & doing stuff that isn’t natural nor is a good karma, doesn’t mean that we have to be normal too and be like everyone else; it is good to be different, be an individual.
“But where do you get your protein from?”
This question will always come to you, whether from yourself or someone else, however, don’t be fooled by it, no vegan has ever died from protein deficiency, but actually, vegans get more & better protein than meat eaters. Protein is made out of amino acids, and plants contain (almost all the) essential amino acids, therefore you are getting good, raw protein; whereas from meat, you aren’t getting all the amino acids therefore not enough protein. Also, there is no storage for excess protein in the body, and all the excess protein then turns into fat which will be stored around the liver, heart etc. so eating too much protein isn’t good. You might think that vegans do not have many things to eat, however, there are over 20,000 edible plants in the planet, so as long as you explore and get in the habit of learning new recipes, you will have more than enough of plates to try out and eat. The cost for fruits & vegetables can be expensive, but it is worth it for your health; because health is wealth therefore spending money on (organic) plants is the same as spending money on better health for yourself; but if you go to (or live) in Asia , Africa etc. fruits and vegetables are actually very cheap, and organic so there is no need to worry about money.
“What about going to a (family) dinner with no vegan options?”
The answer is very simple and clear, fasting! Fasting is a very powerful technique, healing and process that everyone should do on a regular basis, by choice. When we fast for more than 24 hours, then and only then are we giving our organs proper rest and properly cleansing the bloodstream, which is very necessary as blood is very vital. So by fasting for few hours won’t hurt, because you should be fasting for a few days if possible! Also, you can always share knowledge and be a good, positive influence towards family and friends and help them to follow the lifestyle too.
In conclusion, veganism isn’t a way but it should be the only way, not as an extremist, but as normal, healthy and happy human being. It is always good to read books, watch videos, listen to podcasts etc. on veganism, holistic health and so on, and fill your mind with knowledge so you can apply it to your life to be happy and healthy and also share it with those near and dear to you.
Eat for Nutrition not Taste
Although vegan food, vegetables and fruits taste amazing, always keep in mind to eat for its nutrition not taste. People will become demotivated to eat healthy (salad etc.) because of its raw taste, forgetting all the nutritional values that it will provide. But fruits and vegetables taste amazing, and if you can cook them good, they will taste good.
Break-fast with fruits!
Fruit is the most cleansing food for your body.
Fruits should be eaten on an empty stomach and never mixed with any other food.
Fruits are the appropriate Break – Fast.
There are many benefits of eating fruits on an empty stomach but one of the major one is that fruits is the most cleansing food for the body, and when you eat fruits on an empty stomach it digests very easily & it’s natural sugars can be processed for energy very quickly, whereas if you eat fruits after something else, it causes fermentation in the gut & prevents the body from absorbing all its micronutrients. Eating heavy food on an empty stomach is not healthy for the body, and when you eat heavy food, the body uses energy to digest the food so that is why eating fruits first helps the body to start its digestive process and gives it the energy to deal with the heavier food eaten afterwards. There are sweet fruits, acidic fruits, sun-acidic fruits & melons. It is ideal that you combine the fruits properly in order for it to digest properly, or if possible, the best thing to do is to eat one type of fruit per break-fast so the combination is pure and easy.
Combining the right foods together is not very vital, but it is a very important and big topic. We won’t go through it all here, but you must know that food combination is very important and should be done properly. If it is done poorly, the foods won’t digest together well which can lead to diseases, or lead to someone being at dis-ease. For instance, protein and starches should never be eaten together because their combination is too heavy and the body can’t digest it properly, where as protein and vegetables, or starches and vegetables is a good combination. Fruits should never be combined with vegetables or any other foods and should always be eaten alone. Food combining can be quite difficult but yet it is simple when you break down your diet, and eat simple and healthy.
Just remember, veganism is not a (extreme) diet, but a healthy lifestyle; and always remember, eat for nutrition, not for taste! (even though vegan food tastes amazing!)
